Elizabethton, Tennessee, located in Carter County in Northeast TN, was founded in 1799 and incorporated in 1905.  It serves as the county seat of Carter county.  The Doe River flows underneath the historic wooden Elizabethton Covered Bridge which was built in 1882.  The Carter Mansion, located near the edge of the city limits, is the oldest stick frame house in Tennessee.  Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area is located in Elizabethton at the convergence of the Doe River and Watauga River.  Sycamore Shoals take you back in history to the 18th century fort lifestyle where the Overmountain Men mustered prior to the battle of King's Mountain during the Revolutionary War.

 

Elizabethton had a population of 14,204 people in 2012, a median family income of $30,007 and a median home value of $104,915.  It has an elevation of 1560 feet and covers 9.16 square miles.
