Kingsport, Tennessee is located in Sullivan and Hawkins counties in the northeastern portion of Tennessee.  Kingsport was incorporated in 1917.  It is named after the founder's original boatyard, William King's Port, on the Holston River, where the North Fork and South Fork intersect.  Daniel Boone and Davey Crockett both frequented this area.  There are 2 major interstates serving the city, I-26 begins in Kingsport and I-81 runs through.  Kingsport is home to a major chemical company, Eastman Chemical Company, along with several other industries.  Kingsport makes up part of the Tri-Cities metro area along with Bristol and Johnson City.

 

Kingsport TN had a population of 51,501 in 2012 with an estimated median household income in 2012 of $38,918.  The estimated median home value in 2012 was $129,386.  Kingsport has an elevation of 1208 feet and covers 44.1 square miles with a population density of 1,169 people per square mile.

 

Kingsport TN is home of Cattails at MeadowView golf course, a Denis Griffiths design, which opened in 1998.  It was recently named the second best golf city in America by Golf Digest magazine.  Allandale Mansion, designed by architect Allen Dryden, Sr., once was a 500 acre farm used to raise championship Black Angus cows and blue-ribbon Tennessee Walking horses.  Allandale is now a part of Kingsport's civic and social life.

 

The area makes up part of the Appalachain Mountains and includes a city owned park, Bays Mountain Park and Planetarium.  Tennessee's most visited state park, Warrior's Path State Park, is the only Tennessee State Park with a Boundless Playground for all children can play together regardless of physical and mental abilities.  Kingsport's official Living History Farm, Exchange Place, is a historical landmark.

 

The climate is comfortable year-round with all four seasons noticeable.  Kingsport is a great place to visit and live!  The city lives up to it's slogan, "Best Place To Be, Kingsport, Tennessee!"
